Get to Know Adam...

What is your favorite thing about being an Environment, Health and Safety Practitioner?
As an EHS practitioner, I enjoy the flexibility and diversity that come with my role. Crafting safety programs, auditing, addressing fire safety concerns, and engaging with people from all corners of the world make every day unique. Whether I'm collaborating with national teams or navigating diverse regulatory landscapes, the dynamic nature of my responsibilities adds vibrancy to my professional journey. Meeting individuals from various backgrounds not only broadens my perspective but also fosters a sense of connection and shared commitment to creating safer, healthier environments.

What is the most interesting project you’ve ever worked on?
The most interesting project I have ever worked on Is the being a part of the Health and Safety team for a complex leisure Centre and one of the first moveable swimming pool floor.

What are some of your favorite tools/resources for professional development in this practice area?
IOSH is one of the approving bodies that I am a member of, and they have plenty of resources and short CPD courses that are really resourceful and help towards my personal professional development. I also use the Fire protection association who also have plenty of resources and courses to support with my personal competence piece.

What is a key ingredient for success as a Environment, Health and safety practitioner?
Absorb every bit of information that you are exposed to. Learning in Health and Safety is like a dynamic risk assessment, it is always changing. Never stop learning.

What area(s) of Environment, Health and safety are you most interested in? Why?
I personally am interested in fire safety out of all the broad areas we do get involved in. The reasoning behind this is mainly due to the events that have happened in the UK such an Grenfell and I want to be a part of the solution.

What surprises people about your job?
The amount of technical competence/knowledge that is required for us to be aware of/understand.

If you could develop a new solution for Environmental, health and safety what would it be?
An intriguing solution could involve the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to create a real-time, predictive EHS monitoring system. This system could continuously collect and analyze data from various sources, including employee health monitors, and safety equipment. Using AI algorithms, it could predict potential safety hazards, identify areas for improvement in environmental practices, and proactively recommend preventive measures. I think this is moving with the natural evolution of health and safety and we should use this to our advantage to get more accurate real time data.
