Get to Know Charlotte...

What is your favorite thing about being a EHS Practitioner?
The variety, the people and our clients!

What is the most interesting project you’ve ever worked on?
I am not sure I can choose one specific project, however, I have always most enjoyed working on EHS compliance or management system audits. The challenge of visiting a wide variety of sites in various sectors and having to apply my knowledge has always been really fulfilling and is one of the reasons I love being a consultant.

What is a key ingredient for success as a EHS practitioner?
As an EHS practitioner you are often helping to solve problems, whether that’s supporting a company achieve compliance with specific legislation, responding to a workplace incident or providing ergonomics support. A key skill is being able to listen to the concerns of colleagues or clients and also be an effective collaborator as most of these issues are not solved in isolation. As with any consulting role communication skills are also key for success!

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Without a doubt it’s the people! I love working with colleagues and partners on global projects. I feel so lucky to have made so many ‘work’ friends over the years

Just for Fun

What surprises people about your job?
The sheer variety of topics EHS practitioners get involved with – from ‘traditional’ safety functions to pandemic response, employee wellbeing programs and sustainability initiatives.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was obsessed by volcanoes as a child and remember wanting to be a vulcanologist!

If you had one month off, where would you go or what would you do?
I would pack up our campervan and head off on a road trip (hopefully with the family in tow). The more remote the better – Outer Hebrides in Scotland, West Coast of Ireland, the Alps – anywhere where we can be near a lake or the ocean for some swimming and paddle boarding.

What is on the top of your bucket list?
In terms of travel, top of my bucket list at present is visiting Iceland and New Zealand.

Bonus – any advice for people looking to go into EHS consulting?
Enjoy the journey and make the most of opportunities to collaborate with different colleagues, visit different sites and work on a variety of projects.
