What is your favorite thing about being a EHS Practitioner?
Making a tangible difference in people's lives and the environment. Knowing that our work helps protect people and ensure sustainable practices gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment.
What is the most interesting project you’ve ever worked on?
I've spent the past decade working with high profile Defence clients such as the MoD, Home Office, and NATO which meant I had the privilege of contributing to several critical and high-stakes projects across the globe.
What areas of EHS are you most interested in? Why?
Mental health. Mental well-being is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of workplace safety. I’m passionate about creating environments that support employees' mental health, helping to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and promote overall well-being.
If you could develop a new solution for EHS what would it be?
It would be a comprehensive mental health monitoring, and support system tailored for the workplace. We can make a significant impact by developing programs and initiatives that prioritise mental health in the workplace, ensuring that it's treated with the same importance as physical safety. My goal is to assist in creating supportive environments where mental health is actively monitored and nurtured, leading to healthier, happier, and more productive employees.
Just for Fun...
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Marine Biologist (but honestly, it changed on a regular basis)
What was your first job?
I was 16 and I worked on the perfume counter at Debenhams at Christmas!
If you had one month off, where would you go or what would you do?
Cala Goloritzé Beach in Sardinia. It is hands down the most beautiful country I have ever visited, and I would love to return and take my son this time.
Any advice for people looking to go into EHS consulting?
If you are someone like me who came into EHS from a completely different industry, I started by looking for entry-level EHS positions within companies that were open to hiring individuals with diverse backgrounds.
